Who We Are and What This Covers
This Privacy Policy explains how The Script Pad ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use thescriptpad.com, our newsletters, podcasts, and related services (the "Services"). It also explains the choices and rights you have. By using the Services you acknowledge the practices described here.
Information We Collect
Information you give us.
- Newsletter sign up: your email address.
- Account and subscription: name, email address, password, professional role or specialty if you choose to provide it, and billing details. Payment card numbers are collected and stored by our payment processor, not by us.
- Contact form, pitches, and letters: your name, email address, and whatever you include in your message.
- Surveys and events: the answers and registration details you provide.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the Services we and our service providers collect device and usage information such as IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, time spent, and approximate location derived from IP address. Our email service may record whether you opened a newsletter or clicked a link.
Information from others. If your organization buys a group subscription it may give us your name and work email so we can set up your access.
Health information. We do not ask for, and you should not send us, information about any patient. We are a publisher, not a healthcare provider, health plan, or business associate, and we are not a covered entity under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). If a message to us contains patient information we will delete it.
How We Use Information
- to provide, maintain, and improve the Services, including delivering newsletters and managing subscriptions
- to process payments and send receipts, renewal reminders, and service notices
- to respond to your questions, pitches, and requests
- to understand which content is read and useful so we can improve our journalism and products
- to send you editorial and promotional email you have agreed to receive, which you can stop at any time
- to detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security issues, and technical problems
- to comply with law and enforce our Terms of Use
We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not use your information to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
Email Choices
Every newsletter and marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email us to be removed. Transactional messages about your account or billing will continue while you have an account.
How Long We Keep Information
We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide the Services and for the purposes described in this policy. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Account and billing records are kept for the life of the account and for up to seven years afterward to meet tax, accounting, and legal obligations. Contact form messages are kept for up to two years unless they relate to published work or an ongoing matter.
Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and reputable service providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a breach that affects your personal information we will notify you as required by law.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- know what personal information we hold about you and receive a copy
- correct inaccurate information
- delete your information
- opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising
- limit use of sensitive personal information
- appeal our decision about your request
These rights apply to residents of California under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, and to residents of other states with comprehensive privacy laws, including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and others, as those laws apply. Residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland have similar rights under the GDPR, and the legal bases for our processing are performance of a contract, legitimate interests in operating and improving a publication, consent, and legal obligation.
To make a request, email privacy@thescriptpad.com. We will verify your request using information associated with your account or email address and respond within the time required by law, generally 45 days. You may use an authorized agent, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. To appeal a decision, reply to our response with the subject line "Appeal" and we will respond within the time required by your state's law.
California notice. In the past 12 months we have collected identifiers, commercial information such as subscription records, internet and network activity, approximate geolocation, and professional information, from the sources and for the purposes described above. We have not sold personal information or shared it for cross context behavioral advertising, and we do not knowingly sell or share the information of consumers under 16.
Children
The Services are intended for adults and are not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
International Readers
We are based in the United States and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. If you access the Services from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy with a new effective date and, if the changes are material, notify you by email or through the Services before they take effect.
